This gouache entitled Charlot, created in 1920, features the iconic character of Charlie Chaplin, a symbol of the cinematic era and popular culture. The context of the artwork is further enriched by its provenance. Julien Dutilleul, a collaborator and student of Dufy, kept this piece until his accidental death in 1936. The Impasse Guelma, Dufy's studio, was a place of creation for the silk manufacturer Bianchini-Férier, where Dufy produced many influential textile designs.

The work remained in the family’s cabinets for over seventy years before being acquired by the current owner at an auction in 2007. This passage from hand to hand adds a layer of historical and sentimental value to this already precious piece.
