Private collection, France
The lively naturalism, the choice of black chalk on blue support and the minute observation of texture place the drawing squarely within Oudry’s early animal studies. A compelling analogue is View of a Bear from behind (black & white chalk, 27.3 × 42.5 cm; William Doyle, New York, 19 May 2004, lot 6026), where the same swirling hachures and soft stumping describe the animal’s coat.
