This remarkable study sheet presents several views of male feet and legs, executed in red and black chalk in a manner characteristic of Flemish academy practice in the first quarter of the 17th century. The vigorous treatment of form, the keen attention to anatomical articulation, and the lively draughtsmanship relate the work to Jacob Jordaens’s academic drawings from his formative years, circa 1615–1620. The drawing may be compared with sheets preserved in the British Museum, Düsseldorf, and Darmstadt.
